…and Canada joins the ranks of self publishing stand ups, as Darcy Michael has decided to release his upcoming show: “One Skinny Bitch” via his site DarcyMichael.com (Release: May 10).

The only difference from his American colleagues is the lower price: 3$. I think he did it to mess with me and my blog categories, but joke is on him since I’ll post it here in the 5$-section anyway. Your move, Darcy!

“Mohr Stories” is my second favorite podcast right now. It’s stand up comedian Jay Mohr talking to guests for 90-100 minutes, twice a week, Monday and Friday. It’s part of movie maker Kevin Smith’s SModcast Network.

The show always has guests, often the caliber of guys like Dave Attell, Patrice O’Neal, Alonzo Bodden, Jeff Garlin and Doug Benson, but its more conversation than interview. Jay is a funny, likeable guy and all the guests seems to enjoy themselves. Like they have a good, fun time, luckily records it and lets you listen in.

Because he is such a do-gooder, 1$ from each sale will go towards charity, so its not only Jim you are supporting by getting this show.

Review: Alonzo Bodden: “Who’s Paying Attention”

This special is almost 1 year old, yet I still hear it at least once a month. Alonzo Bodden‘s “Who’s Paying Attention” was one of last years funniest releases and I been looking forward to adding a recommendation here.

I wasn’t really aware of Alonzo prior to this release, but according to my research its his third comedy release. Not bad for an actor. He got a classic stand up approach, telling small stories, adding his perspective. Pretty common topics. …but he found plenty of fresh angles and cascades of extremely funny and original jokes. He isnt clean, he isnt dirty, most people should be able to enjoy “Who’s Paying Attention“.

I could name several good bits, but my favorite is on how he has a hard time respecting doctors. It was on repeat it a few times before I could move on. Too good, maybe my favorite bit from last year.

My favorite pod cast: “The Bugle” hosted by jolly Brits John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman. A new show is out every week, usually friday, usually runs 40 minutes to an hour.

Of all the available comedy pod casts, I find this to be the funniest and most entertaining by a mile! Great hosts, great content. Always.

It is part scripted, part improvised and it works great. John and Andy are a perfect team, the jokes are never far between. Topics cover anything in the news, anything current, often politics. It could be described as an extension of the Today Show With Jon Stewart where John Oliver also plays a role.

For those without prior knowledge: If you like your comics dark, Doug Stanhope is your man. Without being a new Bill Hicks, he is slowly filling the void Bill left on my horizon. Its dark, its smart, its courageous, its fresh, its funny. He is definitely a stand up, but he might be something more.

Doug Stanhopes comedy isn’t for everybody. His topics has crawled out of the darkest corners, hope is no where to be found. World is a bad place and the majority of people are problems. All fair. Whats controversial is his use of cursing. You are now warned.
